Corniglia

Manarola is nice, but it was time to leave.  The second part of the hiking trails is also closed; back on the train.  It was a mess once again to board.  The ride is quick through the tunnels.

We located our room easily and were extorted by the landlord at Corniglia Dreams to pay in cash.  These weren't the terms at reservation and I let him know.  He gave Vic and me a 10€ discount and Jen a 3€ discount.  Our room was more or I just yelled the loudest.  The rooms are in an older home, but are nice and have the coldest mini fridge we've encountered in Italy.

We had a nice lunch at Caffe Matteo, more lasagna and one of the friendliest waitresses in Italy.  We then went sight seeing.  Corniglia is the only village without a port.  To its credit,  most of the shops are open ALL day; how remarkably convenient!  We saw one of the rail trains the locals use to transport the grapes from the side of the hills.  They run using a monorail.  I was impressed.  Jen & Vic not so much.  Perhaps I don't get out enough?

After our evening snack we returned to our room.  We sat in the dining room and talked.  We were soon joined by the couple in the third room on our floor.  They are Aussies and quite friendly. They are "on holiday" for 2 months.  Lucky them.  He is a retired doctor.  They had been to Vietnam several times and enjoyed talking to Jen about her visit there as well.  It was fun chatting with them.

Tomorrow, Vernaza:
